People are asking us

The simple answer is no! Whilst we offer a handy pump (with adaptor) and a adaptor which can be used with car tyre pumps there is no special adaptor needed.

The following type of foot pump typically comes with a nozzle which works well with Polyform Fenders.

Foot pump which can be used to inflate polyform fenders

Most inflatable boat fenders can be inflated using a suitable hand pump, foot pump or air source together with the correct valve adaptor. Inflate the fender gradually until it is firm but still has some give when pressed. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommended inflation guidance.

Care should be taken with high-pressure compressors because boat fenders require relatively low pressure and can be damaged by overinflation. A controlled hand or foot pump is often easier for gradually achieving the correct pressure. If using another air source, follow the fender manufacturer’s inflation instructions and pressure limits.

Inflate a Polyform fender to a maximum pressure of 2.0 to 2.1 PSI (0.15 to 0.20 bar) at standard room temperature

The Hand Test: Press the side of the fender with your hand. You should be able to push the wall in by at least 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch (about 0.6 to 1.3 cm).

A bicycle pump or football needle is not suitable.

Our handy Fender Pump or adaptor used with a car tyre foot pump are the most widely used, as are double action foot pumps.
